Fountains are a great addition to any yard. They can be placed in the center of a beautiful garden, on top of a patio, or as a decoration for the front yard. No matter where you put it or what size it is, this helps to create a relaxing ambience. People who love to spend a great deal of time outdoors should build a solar fountain.
Building a solar fountain might sound like a big and an expensive job – but it is actually quite easy and simple to accomplish. All you need are planters, decorative stones, and a solar fountain pump.
First you need to find a planter that is going to be large enough for your garden or yard. If you want it to be a centerpiece than make sure that it is large enough to grab someone’s attention. They come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Try to be unique without straying to far from the look you have already created in your yard.
To make your choice a bit easier you could use the over sized ceramic planter. A great deal of the commercial planters have wide openings that help to make the fountain more dramatic.
Place the cord of the solar fountain pump through the drainage opening and connect it to the solar panel. Around the hole and cord you need to seal it with waterproof silicone adhesive. If the cord cannot fit through the hole than seal it up and run the cord over the side of the planter.
Place bricks in the center of the planter so that you create a platform for the pump. The bricks cannot be connected with the adhesive. All this does is allow the fountain to be closer to the top so that the water line can travel higher into the air.
Next you need to use a screen to cover the outside of the pump and protect it from any dirt. Place the screen underneath the pump and create a cover by surrounding it with bricks that are upright. Cover the opening with a part of the screen.
Lastly you will cover the bricks with the decorative stones. You can leave them exposed for a more rustic look – but the stones help to make it more elegant. Install the solar panel by following the instruction manual and fill the planter with water before the pump is turned on.
